I could write just that much and pretty much cover all the bases with these two... but, of course, I want to tell you a little more about why I like them so much.
When Karli stepped out of their car, she was wearing a darling Anthropologie dress that I came this close to buying online today... and she. looked. stunning! Yep, I knew I was going to like her! And I could tell Nick was a complete sweetheart right from the start.
These Pepperdine grads have been together for two and a half years and are just freshly engaged. I got to hear the super-romantic story about how Nick proposed... and being a hopeless romantic... I loved every minute of it. Nick completely surprised Karli three weeks ago by filling a house with little notes, pictures, and 130 tulips! I asked if there was a significance behind the number 130 - and Nick replied, "Nope, I just bought every single tulip that Safeway had!" I love when guys know how to do things 100% right. Oh and not only did he give Karli a ton of her favorite flowers, he also gave her one of the most stunning rings I've ever seen.
Karli is so warm and loving towards Nick... and he treats her like his princess. It was such a pleasure to spend just a short time with both of them; to see their eyes light up and their smiles glow when they looked at each other. Beautiful.

Nick & Karli: It was so wonderful to meet both of you... I am looking forward to seeing you again! Best wishes as you plan for your wedding and many blessings on your lives together.
I'm not the most hilarious person in the world, so it really gives me a lot of joy when someone think's I'm funny... maybe this is why I just love being around Erin! Her smile is so bright and her laugh is so vibrant -- you just can't help but reflect the smile right back.
It's a good thing that Mike and Erin found each other, because they seem to be the perfect pair. Mike's quiet, witty sense of humor is just what seems to make Erin glow... all of the time. She's crazy about the guy - and she should be, he's wonderful!
I loved hearing Mike say all of the things that he "first noticed about her"... the list was long! I kept a mental tab running through our session. The "first" thing Mike noticed about Erin was:
- her laugh
- her smile
- her hair
- her legs
So basically, the first thing Mike noticed about Erin was... all of her! I can tell he was instantly head-over-heels in love.
And the best part is... I see Erin looking back at him with those same lovey-eyes.

Erin & Mike: thank you for the delightful evening... I'm so glad you're having a Wisconsin wedding! (Mike, be careful for cows there!) :)
Thank you so much Katy. It meant alot to both of us. You truly captured the woman I have the good fortune of marrying.

Katy, these are gorgeous! It truly captures Erin and Mike perfectly! Mike is always being so docile yet goofy, and Erin is always cracking up at his silliness. Congratulations to two of my dearest friends!!
(03.16.09 @ 04:22 PM)Wow.. E you look amazing!!! They turned out so well. Oh yay and you sir look suavamente (wink)
my love to you both. d.
We have always as most parents, prayed for happiness for our children. We have prayed they would meet the right person to spend their lives with. After meeting Mike just briefly before he proposed to Erin, we knew Erin had found the "Guy". Their love for one another radiates. We are so thankful and happy for them. We love you both. Don and Linda (aka;Mom and Dad)
(03.25.09 @ 09:42 AM)I am so happy for you. Erin, I have kept up with by way of your grandmother Helen. Your granddad
Bob was my uncle. Since we live in Texas we have not had much contact with you but my mom and I
always kept up with Aunt Helen and Uncle Bob. Best of luck, May God richly bless this union.
Stay in Gods will and your life will always be blessed. Love, Maxine
Can I tell you how much I miss Cary since she's gotten married? A lot. I love her calm, even tempered, funny spirit. Even though I'm older, I look up to Cary in so many ways. I love loving someone so deeply it almost hurts... that's how much I love Cary.
Oh and she's an amazing assistant! I hired her to work for me today as we did Erin & Mike's engagement shoot (adorable photos to follow). Cary has always been an incredible helper - from helping mom in the kitchen to helping dad in the yard, she's always had an uncomplaining, willing attitude. She's also hilarious! Both of my sisters are so much funnier than I am... and Cary's sense of humor was a great help in getting genuine smiles on the faces of Erin & Mike today. In every way, it was a blessing to have her by my side.
Before Erin & Mike met us, Cary and I were playing with a couple of reflectors that a friend generously let me borrow. She is so stunning... don't you agree!?

Nice to see how God is using your creative energies together. Quite a tribute to your sister.
(03.14.09 @ 12:07 PM)Margo is one of the funniest and wisest women I have ever known... I feel so honored to be counted as one of her friends. She is so full of life and always aims to live lovingly and graciously.
We have been through so much together... life in the dorms, trips to Africa, her wedding, and her move to the Bay Area! I'm so thankful that she and her wonderful husband, Mark, are living nearby now.
Last fall, Margo and Mark received the most exciting news of their lives: they're pregnant! I am so excited to see their little girl... she's due in June so I don't have long to wait!
They say that pregnant women glow... and I don't think anyone could deny it after seeing Margo...

These two are my favorites...

what on earth, Margo is prego?????? I am so excited, katy you will have to take her lil' girls first pics when she arrives so we can all enjoy them!
(03.17.09 @ 04:48 PM)After the new year, Nick Chavez, a dear friend and uber creative photographer, took a few photos of me. If you've been following my blog for a while, you've probably seen some of these images before. I wanted to do something that looked really antique and romantic... and he blew my mind with the results!

You might also remember a post I did about an incredible Portuguese artist named L Filipe dos Santos. From the first moment that I saw his art... I connected with it. He is seriously, seriously talented. I wrote about this image in my old post:

What I loved about this sketch was that the artist actually didn't begin with the line drawing... he began with...

... the colors! The movement and emotion in the colors are what informed his interpretation of their shape. I was so fascinated with the fact that he had created the incredible image of the youth with the bird inside-out; beginning with the color and ending with lines. Brilliant.
So, after I wrote the post I stalkerishly emailed L Filipe dos Santos, commending his beautiful work and wondering if I could commission him to sketch my portrait. I felt like I was sending an email to an imaginary person who lived on the moon. Filipe lives in Spain and is from Portugal... I've never seen his picture... and in my mind, he's practically famous. I didn't know if his site was old, new, or forgotten... and I feared that my unopened email had found its final resting place in some dusty old inbox on the other side of the world. I also thought for a moment that he would see my email and immediately dismiss it... being far too important to sketch some Californian girl... but I preferred to imagine the former in order to avoid feelings of rejection.
But then... one day... I opened my email to find that the artist had written! He was excited about sketching my portrait and requested an image that I would like drawn. I knew just the photo to send him. Yes, the one above.
And just days later I received... this.

My breath literally went away! It's such an incredible feeling to have my own face - the one that I look at in the mirror each day - transformed first of all by an amazing photographer... and then again by a brilliant artist! Both images are completely in the artist's own style and that is what makes them so special.
I feel like it's a gift to be able to see an interpretation of yourself. Behind these interpretations are eyes and minds that have seen me and known me from a standpoint that I could never have.
Ahh... I'm just thrilled by the creativity of others... and by creativity itself.
Thank you, Nick and Filipe: your art inspires me.
Thanks Katy!! :) I'm glad you liked it.
(03.11.09 @ 04:58 PM)Um, oh my gosh!! I can't believe he exists, I am so happy for you Katy. What a treasure this picture is!
(03.13.09 @ 10:38 AM)
